How do you work out a delivery app’s commission?
A delivery app charges a percentage of the order amount per order, sometimes with a fixed fee on top. The percentage is in your own contract; it depends on your terms and on whether the app or you deliver. For venues that deliver themselves we often see 11% with Thuisbezorgd and 13% with Uber Eats. The calculator starts on 11%; enter your own percentage for your own sum.
- Find the commission percentage and any fixed fee per order in your contract or partner portal.
- Take the number of orders and the average order amount from the app’s monthly overview.
- Multiply: order amount × percentage + fixed fee = commission per order.
- Multiply by the orders a month, and by 12 for a year.
What does a worked example look like?
| Step | Value |
|---|---|
| Orders a month through the app | Value: 400 |
| Average order amount | Value: €25 |
| Commission (example) | Value: 11% |
| Commission per order | Value: €2.75 |
| Commission a month | Value: €1,100 |
| Commission a year | Value: €13,200 |
| 20% call you instead: stays with you a month | Value: €220 |
| Left after Joep (€100 a month) | Value: €120 |
These are example values. Enter your own orders, amount and percentage in the calculator above.
What changes when a customer calls you directly?
- On an order through your own number you pay no commission. Joep costs a fixed €100 a month, however many orders he takes.
- If your customer pays up front through a Mollie payment link, Mollie charges its own transaction fees; the money lands in your own account.
- If the app delivers for you now, you deliver an order on your own number yourself, or have it picked up. Count those costs in.
- Your app keeps working as it does: Joep only answers your phone.
At €25 an order and 11% commission, Joep pays for himself at 37 orders a month that come in on your own number instead of through the app.
How do you get customers onto your own number?
- Put your phone number large on your menu, your website, your Google profile and your social media.
- Hand it out with every order picked up in the shop: on the receipt, the bag or a card.
- Tell regulars that calling works too. Check your contract for what you may put in an order that came through the app.
- Make sure you answer when they call, at peak hours too: whoever gets a busy tone twice orders through the app again.
Frequently asked questions
How much commission does Thuisbezorgd charge?
For venues that deliver themselves we usually see 11% of the order amount, and 13% with Uber Eats. When the app delivers, more comes on top. Thuisbezorgd does not publish it on a page we could check, and your terms may differ: the exact percentage is in your own contract and your partner portal. Enter that in the calculator.
Do I have to stop using Thuisbezorgd if I take Joep?
No. Joep only answers your phone; your delivery apps keep working as they do. The difference is in the costs: on an order that comes in on your own number you pay no commission.
What does an order through Joep cost?
Nothing per order. Joep costs €100 a month, with no per-call or per-order charges, and you try him for 7 days for free. If your customers pay up front with a Mollie payment link, Mollie charges its own transaction fees. More on Joep for orders.
